WP Advice 6: Destination Elopement

I like to think of destination weddings as the ultimate wedding experience. Not only are you about to live the day you have been dreaming of but you get to do it in a unique-for-your own-reasons place. Having a destination elopement though brings everything to a whole other level!

Elopements are all about love, intimacy and personal moments but doing it in an other country – or even in a different continent – can make it a bit tricky. Start planning in advance, be prepared to hear complaints from your family and close friends (a post party will calm everyone down ), and make sure you have everything you dream of!

Choose the right location

Destination elopement usually go hand in hand with honeymoon, so the location is important! My opinion in regards to the perfect location might be biased, but I don’t think that anyone can disagree with me in saying that Santorini is one of the most romantic places on earth!

My tip: avoid the month of August as it is the warmest and most crowded month. September is always better!

Find the right vendors

Just because it is an intimate wedding, this doesn’t mean that you are going to be on your own. The wedding planner and the photographer are the most important ones. It’s them with whom you will be spending the entire day with, they will be witnessing your wedding and sharing this memory with you.

My tip: Always ask for a Skype call before you go ahead  booking any of those two to make sure that they are the perfect person for you and the job. Local vendors are always more preferable as they know all the pros and cons of the place your are going to.

Destination elopement make the venue selection much easier, as you do not have to think about logistics like guests capacity, venue access etc. It can take place anywhere you want.

My tip: Santorini is full of beautiful hotels with balconies and terraces with Caldera view perfect for the ceremony. Before booking a hotel ask about their wedding options and combine your accommodation with the wedding ceremony. The areas of Imerovigli and Firostefani are the best!

Just because it is only  going to be the two of you, this doesn’t mean that they day isn’t special or you don’t get to have what you always dreamed of, it is still your wedding!

Getting  a bridal bouquet, decorating the wedding venue, and arranging a romantic dinner to end your day is the best way to go. Don’t forget to add your personal touch in everything you do!

Photos – photos – photos

You want to share your story with your friends and family and make them feel like they were there with you. Book the photographer for at least 5 hours to have time to capture everything. The day schedule can be:

1 hour – preparation and details

30 minutes – first look and ceremony

3 hours – portrait photos at various spots

30 minutes – cake cutting and dinner

My tip: surprise your fiancee with a boudoir photoshoot before the ceremony! Ask to meet the photographer a day before the wedding, it will make you (and most importantly your fiancee) feel more relaxed on the wedding day.

Victoria & Tim

Just like the guests of this wedding, we too would’ve traveled across the globe to attend this wedding at Rocabella Santorini. Because when you’ve got a couple so sweet, kind, and cool like Victoria and Tim are, we’d say thats more than worth it.

We started the planning process a year prior to the wedding, and I have to admit that when our journey reached this spectacular day, all I wanted was for this day to last as long as possible.

The entire wedding was an absolute treasure and we’re so thankful to be a part of it! Victoria and Tim we wish you all the love and happiness in the world, the friendship that came out of this experience is the biggest reward we could have asked for!

Santorini Elopement – Cavo Tagoo

Us planners, we are part of a wonderful industry and community, and our fellow vendors are our source of inspiration and encouragement. This Santorini Elopement photo shoot is a great example of that and is dedicated to Paul and Yiota from Les Anagnou, two amazing photographers with whom we worked on this Santorini elopement.

Their idea was to turn an engagement photo session into an elopement and I couldn’t be more excited – there is something about elopements that makes my heart melt. If you add the perfect venue, beautiful flowers, and lovely details, you can easily understand the reason I wake up with a big smile on my face every morning!

This is one of the reasons we love our field of work, you never know who you’ll be meeting next and in this case, we were fortunate enough to meet you Evita and your lovely mum.Looking so forward to work with you soon.

Alexis & Mike

You know when you stumble upon your dream client and from your first conversation they make you remember why you love your job so much? That’s how these two made us feel with their kind hearts, warm smiles and loving families.

We spent over a year with Alexis and her mother Pia planning every single detail, and we developed a very special bond that went beyond a professional relationship. They became part of our lives and we became part of theirs. It was a bitter-sweet feeling when the wedding day finally arrived and we had to say goodbye to our everyday emails and catch-ups.

Alexis, Mike, and Pia, we can’t thank you enough for your trust, it means the world to us!

Santorini Wedding Squad

It was the beginning of our Santorini wedding season and we thought with the girls why don’t we organise a styled dinner for ourselves? Beside the fact that all of us work in the same industry, we are also very good friends – and you know how it goes “good friends, good food, good times!”

So first allow me to introduce you to my girls (from left to right):

Myself, Alexandra from Alexandra’s cakes, Myrto from Betty Flowers,Anna from Anna Roussos Photography, Eleni from Sphinx Wine Restaurant, Maria from Tie the Knot, and Manto from Santorini Bliss Weddings. Pretty much everything a wedding needs; planners/photographer/pastry chef/florist/venue 🙂

➳ A Wedding Squad we dream of being a part of – Style Me Pretty

Our day started with walks in Oia. Sandy and Odysseas from So Visual Photography were with us to capture this very rare for us occasion –

during the Santorini wedding season our days are fully dedicated to our couples!

Then it was time for dinner & cocktails! Together with Maria and Manto, we prepared a beautiful table with all prettiness us girls deserve.

Alexandra prepared these custom-made desserts which were absolute lush (we had to smack our fingers not to dig in before the photoshoot)

and were the perfect ending to a very busy  but super exciting day!

Finally, this day wouldn’t have been complete without a group activity. Betty’s Flowers provided these beautiful flowers to help us made a

flower bar and so we experimented in making our own flower crowns! ❀
